Special Guests

Thanks to local cartoonist Rod Driver (using the remainder of his hard-won Watson Grant) we are able to bring two artists & organizers from the Indonesian comic scene to Seattle this Fall!

Danang Catur is a graphic artist, printmaker and musician who has curated and distributed his friend’s zines and music since 2007. Together, Danang and Sandy formed Mulyakarya, an arts organization in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

Yudha Sandy is a multimedia cartoonist, graphic artist, sketcher & drawing mentor. As Mulyakarya, Danang and Sandy teach youth cartooning classes and organize the annual comix fest Yogyakarta Komik Weeks

Welcome Nate McDonough, whose auto-bio comics about comics picking and reselling have entertained many of us via Instagram and his new printed collection, “Long Boxes”. Through his mini-comics “Grixly” (now on issue #70!) we’ve come to know Nate as a DIY stalwart, salt of the earth comics samaritan.

We were entranced by the colored pencil lushness of Rahel Suesskind’s “Nona & Masha” comic. Her characters are bratty, adventurous, and brave! We knew instantly that we wanted her to design our fest poster and to invite her to the fest!

Katie Fricas worked on her new book “Checked Out” (Drawn & Quarterly) at our Trailer Blaze comics residency in 2022 so we are delighted to welcome her as a special guest after her publication date. Katie has a drawing style all her own, and her work is extremely funny & smart.

Thanks to Avery Hill we welcome Donya Todd to Short Run from the UK. Donya is an amazing cartoonist, illustrator & painter, she takes creatures with familiar eyes to very weird places! Her new book, “The Witch’s Egg” (currently being kickstarted) is due Oct. 7th. Donya’s appearance is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

Welcome back to Short Run Anders Nilsen, whose “Tongues” self-published comics we have collected for years are now a big, beautiful book. He will have it, and much more at the festival on Nov. 1st!

We’re delighted that Weng Pixin is making the trip to join us on Nov. 1st! Pix designed a tote bag for us during the pandemic when out festival went dark, and she was a Trailer Blaze resident! There, she worked on her new book (out from D&Q) “Wake Up, Pixoto!”
